COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
TUMBLER, DRINKING (GLASS)
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description for all Federal agencies.
1. SCOPE
1.1 Scope. This commercial item description (cid) covers clear glass drinking tumblers.
2. CLASSIFICATION
2.1 Classification. The tumblers shall be of the following sizes and styles, as specified.
Size:
1-6 ounce (single bulge)
2-10 ounce (single bulge)
Style A- Height = 4 inches
Style B- Height = 4-3/4 inches
3-12ounce (single bulge)
4-5 ounce (straight sided)
5- As specified.
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Construction and Materials. The tumblers shall be table glassware for drinking designed without a stem or handle. The tumblers shall be made from soda-lime, borosilicate, or other commercial glass and shall be heat-treated to increase resistance to mechanical shock. The dimensions of the tumblers shall be in accordance with table I. The tumblers shall be essentially straight-sided with a single bulge except for size” 4, Size 1, 2 and 3 tumblers shall have a single bulge in the upper half of the body. The size 4 tumbler shall be a straight sided design. The capacity and shape of size 5 tumblers shall be as specified in the contract or purchase order. Pedestal bases shall not be acceptable for sizes 1 through 4. The tumblers shall be free of heavy cords, checks, soft blisters and open blisters. The tumblers may have up to five scattered bubbles up to 0.05 inch in diameter and elongated bubbles up to 0.10 inch in length. The tumblers shall be straight and true so when rotated about an axis perpendicular to and passing through the center of the base, the top edges shall not show an eccentricity greater than 0.12 inch. The ware shall not rock more than 0.008 inch when placed base down on a flat metal surface.\
