3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Design and construction. The pitcher shall be constructed from a type 300 stainless steel. The body of the pitcher shall be formed without seams from a single piece of corrosion-resisting steel. The pitcher shall consist of a body with a pouring lip or spout, handle, and, if required, a cover. The pitcher shall be designed to hold the capacities listed in table I. The thickness tolerance shall be minus 5 percent, plus 25 percent. Style A pitchers shall be provided without a cover. Style B pitchers shall be provided with a hinged cover and iceguard. The iceguard shall be a perforated section of the pitcher body in the spout area or separate piece of the pitcher body in the spout are or a separate piece of corrosions-resisting steel positioned across the spout opening to restrict the flow of ice.
3.1.1 Handle. The pitcher shall be fitted with a curved handle formed from a single piece of corrosion-resisting steel. The handle shall be minimum of 3 inches high with a minimum clearance space of 1 inch between the body and the handle. The handle shall be positioned directly opposite the pouring spout. The top and bottom of the handle shall be firmly welded with corrosion resistant material to the pitcher body. The weld joint (if spot welded) shall be completely sealed with non-toxic solder to prevent food accumulation.
