4.2 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or order, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure that supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements.
4.3 Sampling. The levels of inspection and acceptable quality levels (AQL’s) shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-105.
4.4 Lot formation. All pitchers from the same manufacturer offered for delivery at one time shall be considered a lot for purposes or inspection.
4.5 Sampling for visual and dimensional examination. A random sample of pitchers shall be selected from each lot in accordance with inspection level S-4, AQL 4.0 expressed in terms of defects per hundred units. The sample unit shall be one pitcher. The sample pitcher shall be visually and dimensionally examined to verify compliance with table I and the remainder of this commercial item description. All dimensions are absolute as defined in ASTM E 29.

4.6 Examination for preparation for delivery. A random sample of shipping containers shall be selected from each lot for examination of the unit, intermediate, and shipping containers (as applicable) for conformance with the packaging, packing, and marking required in the contract or order. Samples shall be selected in accordance with inspection level S-2, AQL 6.5, expressed in terms if defects per hundred units. The sample unit shall be one shipping container.
5. PACKAGING
5.1 Preservation, packing, and marking.
The preservation, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
